We know better...
Secret technology is 50yrs more advanced than what the public is allowed to know about. US has weapons 50 yrs ahead of its time. When the 4th industrial revolution starts, A.I. will be used to control the masses.
I think ... thats what they want you to believe and keeps us from taking back what is ours . Their wet dream that has bin working for them for years . The greatest danger comes from the sky ,thats why airplane developement is very poor to public . In times of war ,who controls the sky has the power .
60 miles away and everything public started decades ago behind closed doors. This means they have something that can shoot 120 miles away and destroy a target in under a second and we don't even know what it looks like.
Surely they have compacted the ABL into a smaller form by now. Such a plane could potentially have total air superiority since it can fry anything that can be detected in the sky from a greater distance than any missile system. It's mostly a matter of power generation and energy usage making or breaking the effectiveness of this weapon. How many shots it can fire before draining it's power source is likely classified, though it probably isn't much since such systems are not widely deployed. If an ABL could fire laser beams all day, most aircraft and missiles would be made obsolete. Only stealth planes would stand a chance against a death ray deleting every radar signature in the sky.
non stealth planes could be finished like mirrors
@drutsohg: A glass one like Wonder Woman's jet? Far Out! The magnitude of the laser's power could instantly melt whatever reflective material an aircraft can practically be built of. I can't see a plane made of the same material as the reflective lenses used by lasers. It would have to be more like heat shielding used for spacecraft reentry. They would have to resist the extreme heat of a very hot beam focused on the target.
@Spectralwulf: Maybe so but I bet there is a low-tech cheap answer. I saw a show where they had this vehicle-mounted microwave gun and they talked it up a lot. they went on and on about the technology. then they had a guy try to advance on it and he couldn't. So he grabbed a mattress and held it in front of him and walked right up to the truck no problem. What does that have to do with lasers? Nothing.
Come on guys, Jonathan Frakes is narrating... i mean duh.. daarpa hollywood
Soon to be used on citizens. :(
