Holocaust Researcher Killed at Home in Nikolaev, Ukraine
Breaking news. A 67 year old man found dead in his home with injuries to his head, bruises and knife wounds. The murder took place on May 14th 2021 in Ukraine, in the city of Nikolaev. Vladimir Shookyn was found by his neighbor at his home inside an apartment building. The neighbor saw his dead body on the floor through an open door. The victim was a Candidate of Sciences in History. He was a prominent historian, regional ethnographer and a holocaust researcher. The researcher studied Holocaust events in Ukraine. He was once employed with the department of history at the national Sookhomlinsky institute in Nikolaev. Later he worked as an associate professor for a Nikolaev branch of Odessa public law academy. In 2006 he defended his candidate's thesis on The state of jewish population in Herson province in the 19th and the early 20th century. He has authored over 250 scientific published works including the following. Tragic Holocaust chronicles within the territory of Nikolaev disctrict. A similar murder occured in Nikolaev in 2018, when another local historian died of knife wounds. Nikolay Sheetook killed in 2018 was once a thesis director for Vladimir Shookyn. He was a major Holodomor researcher who authored over 200 published works, some of which were internationally recognized. The murderer was found to be his distant relative.
